Health Care

Programs for under-insured patients   - Whether your employer provides limited coverage or if your health insurance plan does not cover all of your costs, patients still have options available to them. Free medical care from charities.   While funding is limited, and qualifications need to be met, many charities can also provide help. Non-profit such as the Patient Advocate Foundation, Shepherd's Hope, Inc., and many others offer programs. State and federal government medical assistance programs   are organized by many states and government agencies. They provide free or discounted health care, public aid, programs such as Medicaid and Medicare, prescription drug coverage and more. A focus is often on seniors and families with children. The federal government also offers a health insurance plan for   veterans and military personnel   as well as their immediate family members. The   VA Medical Care Hardship program   will provide them help with health care expenses, and it will ensure our military members get the treatment they need and deserve.

Free dental care   is offered by hundreds of community clinics, public health care programs, and dental centers. Locations can provide either free or reduced priced care to low income and uninsured individuals. Find a listing of   dental clinics, their addresses and phone numbers.

In-store clinics   are located in some major retailers such as CVS, Walgreens, and Wal-Mart. They can offer quality health care at a low price. Some even provide free medical services from nurses.   More.

Programs for uninsured   - If you can’t afford to buy insurance, do not qualify for government programs such as Medicaid, or if your employer doesn’t provide coverage, then there are a few dozen resources available to people who lack insurance. Senior Centers   can provide information on free health care services. Some locations will also offer basic check ups, provide flu shots, and similar support. Senior centers offer a wide variety of services and also offer advice on how the elderly can save money on medical bills. Learn about Medicare, prescription drug coverage and other resources. Get free prescription drugs and medications

Free or low cost prescription medications   are offered by drug companies, non-profits and government organizations. There are several prescription drug programs that will provide patients with either free or low cost medications. A focus is on people with a life threatening condition or a serious need.   More.

Save money on prescriptions on your own . Find ways to get help and   save on your prescriptions, whether you use a generic or a name brand medication. You can save up to 80% on your medicines and prescription drugs.

Pfizer, Merk, and Eli Lilly offer free prescription medications.   Many drug companies, such as Abbot, Pfizer, Merk, Johnson and Johnson and Lilly have created   patient assistance programs   that will provide free prescription medications and drugs to the unemployed and low to moderate income. While conditions need to be met by applicants, these programs are usually offered to people provided they do not have health insurance and they have been taking the medication for more than three months.

Save on prescriptions and medical care if you are a union member .   A number of benefits are offered by   Union Plus . may also be able to provide individuals with free assistance
and guidance. Get help with medical debts and health care expenses,
and learn more about a   consumer credit counseling organization.

Apply for the   Nevada Energy Assistance Program (EAP)   at your community action agency. Centers serve as intake sites, and work closely with the Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services' on the administration of LIHEAP. The program will help lower and working poor individuals with the cost of paying their home energy bills. If you apply and are found to be qualified, households can receive a one-time per year grant that will be paid to their utility company. If you are faced with a disconnection, then the state also a crisis option as well.

WIC can help put children and mothers in position for long term success. Sustainable health begins with a balanced diet, proper nutrition, and regular exercise. So the   Women, Infant, and Children program provides free supplemental nutritious foods, education, and counseling. Your local agency will also offer referral services to other government and public assistance. WIC is for pregnant women, Infants, breastfeeding women, and even children up to five years of age.

Senior Centers   in Nevada provide nutritious lunches, transportation, health screenings, home repair and modification, life-skills education, socialization, computer training, and more. Most of the centers are located at agency on aging centers or at charities/non-profits such as the Salvation Army.

Energy Efficiency services   are provided by Weatherization. The purpose of the federal government funded program is to assist income-eligible families and help them reduce their utility and cooling bills by providing various energy conservation measures. All improvements to your home are provided free of charge to qualified homeowners.

Funds are used to improve the overall energy performance of homes, including rentals. Weatherization uses the most advanced testing protocols and technologies available. This can include new, more energy-efficient water sub-metering, thermostats, plumbing fixtures, CFL lighting, window caulking, and solar screens. Some other activities include Low Flow Shower Heads, Limited Energy Related Repairs, Air Sealing to reduce infiltration, Pipe and/or Duct Insulation, and more.

REXO Champs   is offered by some community action agencies. It can assist ex-felons transitioning from prison back to the larger Nevada community. The goal is to provide services and assistance programs through family re-unification, employment, educational services, counseling, mentoring and referrals to help ex-felons to become contributing members of society.

Community action agency employment programs

Employment Assistance and Job Training   services are available. Most of the Workforce Development resources are offered for free to applicants who meet guidelines. All career assistance services administered by a community action agency are designed to help Nevada residents find a job. Or if a client is already employed, then they may improve their skills in order to help them obtain a higher income or maintain employment.

Many workshops are held at locations in Nevada as well. They will cover topics such as Dress for Success, Job Search Boot-camp, Networking your way to Success, and Interviews.

Youth   are a focus too. Young adults, recent high school graduates, and teenagers can be exposed and get information on a variety of careers opportunities, employability skills, financial management and college exploration. Many of the resources result in internship placements and/or scholarship opportunities. Counselors work with youth to help them realize their full potential and to importantly help them identify a career path from high school to their first day of work.

Resources for veterans and military members

Veterans programs include   employment services and more . Many non-profit community agencies offer extensive assistance to military members, veterans, spouses, and their immediate family members. Case managers will try to determine their personal strengths and assist in their job search. Learn about an array of veteran-specific workshops, housing programs, and job training opportunities. Ongoing support and guidance will be offered too.

Other support services to eligible veterans and their families can include rental assistance and resources to help prevent homelessness. Programs can promote housing stability among very low-income and at-risk veterans.

Case management and outreach   is offered by community action agency, and this includes assistance in obtaining VA benefits as well as other public aid. Temporary financial assistance and grants can be obtained. These can pay for utility assistance, rent, security deposits, transportation, child care, moving costs, and emergency supplies.

Saint Vincent De Paul   - Tens of thousands of volunteers, or Venetians, work with this charity organization. They provide basic needs such as food and clothing, access to thrift stores, and more. As a last resort, when a family is in a crisis, limited financial assistance for paying bills (such as utilities or rent) may be offered. Salvation Army   Centers   - They operate from thousands of centers across the nation. The organization tries to feed the hungry, fight poverty, provides limited financial aid for bills in a crisis, and more. Case managers from the charity try to help people overcome their challenges. The Assistance League   - This charity has hundreds of centers. While each location offers different resources and direct financial assistance is not usually available, they can generally help with the following. The Jewish Federation of North America   works with hundreds of charities across the nation. Regardless of an individuals religion, they generally assist the less fortunate, unemployed, and elderly. United Methodist Church   provides help to the working poor from thousands of locations across the nation. While the specifics of each site will vary, the charity will generally offer free food and clothing as well as basic needs. Community Action Agencies   - Almost 1,500 counties across the country have local, non-profit organizations known as Community Action Agencies. These organizations often administer various energy assistance programs, including LIHEAP, and these agencies can also refer you to additional resources in your local area. Dollar Energy Fund   - Several states, including WV, TN, PA, OH, MD, and VA participate in this program. It has been in existence for almost 30 years, and hundreds of thousands of people have received grants for paying their utility and heating bills.   Read more.

Free Legal Assistance - Most states have non-profit law firms that can advise low to moderate income individuals, the elderly, and disabled on their legal rights when it comes to utility service disconnections. Lawyers can provide free legal advice and will do what they can to help the individual keep their power on.Read more.

Operation Roundup -   An assistance program offered by many utility companies. They will provide cash grants to help pay utility, heating, and other bills. For example, you can even get help with rent, medical expenses, or food aid.   More.

Salvation Family Emergency Services   - Families can always turn to The Salvation Army for help. The Salvation Army Family Emergency Services addresses basic human needs, providing a "safety net" for those who need help paying bills and have nowhere else to turn to. They will provide clothing, food, utility bill assistance and also counseling. Case workers at the Family Emergency Services help prevent homelessness through crisis intervention.
